Kojum wins Gold in National Weightlifting Championship
ITANAGAR, Mar 13: Kojum Taba of Arunachal Pradesh won gold medal in Men’s 77kg category in the 67th Men & 30th Women Senior National Weightlifting Championship at Jaipur, Rajasthan yesterday.
Kojum lifted 173 kg in clean and jerk, one kg more than his senior competitor and National Games gold medalist Sathish Kumar of Tamil Nadu.
He has won two gold and 1 silver medals from this championship.

Govt. issues directive
ITANAGAR, Mar 13: In an important decision government of Arunachal has directed all the govt. departments to accept call deposits and bank guarantee issued by Arunachal Pradesh State Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd. for tendering process by the firms and govt. departments.
In a communiqué, finance secretary Daulat Hawaldar informed that this decision has been taken in the interest of the Arunachal Pradesh State Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd. and to facilitate the members of the public to make call deposits, Bank Guarantee etc.
IMWA cautions bandh callers
ITANAGAR, Mar 13: The Itanagar Market Welfare Association in a press statement strongly cautioned the bandh callers stating that it will not support any kind of bandh call by any organisation at Itanagar. Sending a strong message to the unions and organisations that resort to bandh call to meet their demands, IMWA stated that bandh calls causes
heavy losses to the business community and also impacts business activities. The IMWA further added that it will run its establishment during any bandh call, and if any bandh callers cause damage to the shops, the defaulter will be dragged to court under appropriate sections of law. However, IMWA clarified that it will extend any kind of help and cooperation to any organisation who adopts democratic means of protest such as dharna and peaceful rally within its jurisdiction.

SYNTEX tanks distributed by 14 Assam Rifles at Panlom
ITANAGAR, Mar 13: 14 Assam Rifles provided eight Syntex water tanks each to the villagers of Panlom village and Motong village respectively on March 11 and March 12. Capacity building prog on poverty reduction
ITANAGAR, Mar 13: The first phase block level intensive training programme to build capacity of frontline government functionaries in poverty reduction exercise concluded at Mengio, Papum Pare district.
The training programmes were held in four core sectors of development, namely rural water sanitation, primary health care in rural areas, education in rural areas, rural livelihood and rural development sponsored by Department of Personnel and Training, New Delhi and implemented by Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Naharlagun.
The trainings were conducted for Mengio block and its surrounding villages under the supervision of programme course coordinator Dr Manjuli Komut and EAC Mengio S Gurung.

Tuki pays tribute to First World War soldiers
NEW DELHI, Mar 13: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki attended an Exhibition organized by the Indian Army to commemorate the Centenary of the First World War in New Delhi today as the chief guest. The exhibition is being organized in the memory of the 1.5 million Indian Soldiers who fought in the war and over 74000 who made the supreme sacrifice.
While paying his tributes to the soldiers the Chief Minister recalled the contribution of many family members of the soldiers who subsequently contributed in safeguarding the international borders of Arunachal Pradesh at various times, particularly during the Chinese aggression in 1962.
The Chief Minister and Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi were felicitated by the Chief of Staff of the Maneckshaw Centre in the national capital. They visited different stalls recreated the World War I achievements of the Indian soldiers and lauded the efforts of the organizers for paying a befitting tribute to their sacrifices.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister attended the inaugural session of the India Today Conclave 2015 where Arunachal Pradesh is the focus state for Leisure and Tourism.
ITANAGAR, Mar 13: The National Population Register, NPR and Biometric Enrolment, BME camp was organized for Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries and MLAs at the Nokmey Namati hall of the Legislative Assembly building today.
The objective of the NPR and BME is to create a comprehensive identity database in the country with full identification and other details by registering every usual resident in the country.

DAPORIJO, Mar 13: After a long gap, Pawan Hans Helicopter Ltd has resumed its passenger services between Itanagar and Daporijo on Friday.
“Resumption of the chopper service will come as a great relief for the people of the district, especially for the patients during emergency,” said local MLA and APEDA Chairman Dikto Yekar, who travelled to Daporijo by the resumed flight.
While informing that the flight will operate once a week on Friday, Dado Nayam, a staff of the Pawan Hans Service, said that the helicopter service will be extended to remote Taksing. However, the helicopter service to Taksing will depend upon availability of passengers, he said. The ticket fare is fixed at Rs 2,100.

ITANAGAR, Mar 13: Purabi Nath and Dileep Chetri, both students of Govt. Hr Sec School, Tezu, shared this year’s Bhajan Award for their dedicated services to Bamboosa Library for the last 6 years and for extending library services to the public of Tezu.
Purabi, Class XI has been one of the first regular library readers and activists, while Dileep, Class X, has been a dedicated volunteer for the last 6 years.
This is the second year of the Bhajan Award set up by a patron of the Libraries from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, in memory of his pious parents. The duo shared Rs.8000 cash award.

Assam forest encroached by people from neighbouring states
Guwahati, Mar 13: The Assam government today said its forest areas along the borders of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Mizoram are encroached by the people of the respective states.
Replying to a discussion at the Assembly, state Environment and Forest Minister Atuwa Munda said: "Huge areas of Assam forest have become disputed along the borders of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Mizoram after border dispute started with these states." "Due to this, people of these states have encroached upon forest areas of Assam," he said.
Munda, however, did not mention how much forested area were under encroachment from other states.

Citing a report by the Forest Survey of India, Munda said the total forest and tree cover of the state had gone up to 29,253 sq km in 2013 from 29,129 sq km in 2005.
The total forest area of Assam also went up to 27,671 sq km in 2013 from 27,645 sq km in 2005, he said.
"Declaration of reserve forest of many forest areas of Assam before the Independence is the main reason for this increase," the minister said, refuting allegation of AIUDF MLA Mazibur Rahman, who initiated the discussion that forest areas in Assam were going down. PTI

A worse kind of racism

This is with reference to " An Eye for an Eye" published in Arunachal Times on 11 March 2015. If natives commit an atrocity (lynching of a Muslim in Dimapur recently) then you analyze the socio economic reasons behind their action, while indirectly condoning the same. But if a native of Northeast gets victimized in Mainland India you dont bother to make a similar socio economic analysis but instead reiterate your branding of mainland Indians as racist. Whatsoever the natives do against mainland Indians is justified. This kind of racism is even worse than the racism for which mainland Indians are blamed by natives of northeast. If Bangladeshis are proliferating entire Northeast, it is because of natives in police force taking bribes from them to let them in.

against ‘outsiders’ is a threat to the fragile heterogeneous social fabric of North
East India which if destroyed will only result into mayhem and chaos and will push
back the sluggish economy of the region to yesteryears and hamper the region's socio-
The victim could not have been treated as ‘outsider’ since he was married to a local Naga lady. Therefore, mischief mongers falsely dubbed him to be an ‘illegal immigrant’ to garner societal backing for their heinous act. This clearly indicate that ‘religion’ angle was avoided by them since they knew that public anger could not be ignited if it was not a case of an ‘illegal immigrant’ criminal as against a particular religion or a community since it is but obvious that the Naga people know that various Indian citizens practising various religions including Islam live in Assam and Bengal. The cause for their brutal act of violence may have to be looked somewhere else. And the first thing that comes to mind is the people’s disenchantment with the palpable failure of the State to stop or check crime against women especially rape and the process of the justice delivery system which in majority of the cases fails to deliver. The mass participation indicate the frustration and anger that people holds against such act of crime and the failure of the State to curve such crimes.

What is most disturbing is the participation of young people including school children. How could parents/elders allow children to participate in such act of brutality? Are we failing as a society in teaching our children the right societal values and ethos and about rule of law? Society as a whole specially the parents/community leaders ought to ensure that such incidents do not repeat in future. State has to revamp its policing and justice delivery systems to not only ensure safety of its citizens but also to reinstall people’s faith in the State and its organs whereby a just society is established and principles of rule of law adhered to in its letter and spirit.

Need of accountability
Dear Editor,
I feel ashamed to read and see that political leaders and bureaucrats and public of Arunachal are behaving without any sense of rationality and accountability. The state is completely in anarchy. The concerned ministers do not show their expenditure details. They are not able to show their utilization certificate, because they have eaten funds offered by GoI in the name of projects without doing any work. The PM Modi clearly knows about corrupt practices and have made it mandatory to produce utilization certificate. The public of Arunachal, the leaders of opposition, elite societies and student unions have no sense and courage to ask CM and his ministers about the money offered for Arunachal Pradesh. On the statehood day, PM Modiji had clearly instructed the public of AP, the leader of opposition, elite societies and student unions to ask an account for every paise. The CM has no budget and neither can he give an account of the money offered by GoI for AP. Even if Rs 445 Cr would be generated as revenue from hydro project, I can predict that the amount would disappear in thin air. When the govt is not able to account for thousands of crores of free money offered by GoI, then how could they account for RS 445 Cr.? And now no bureaucrat will risk his/her job and life to give fake utilization certificates. So, there will be no fund from GoI, but anyway it would not affect the general public because even when funds were granted it never reached common people.
Indeed it is a very shameful scenario without a budget. I do not know how people from other states of India and other countries of the world would think about AP. It is all the more shameful for the public of AP, who have elected such leaders, who can only beg from centre.
Recently, our ministers passed land bill which permits people to acquire unclaimed government lands. According to the bill people have the right to claim land besides highways and build on it. It is funny and shameful to read the same group of ministers blaming bureaucrats of instigating people to acquire and build besides the proposed Trans highway. In fact, it was ministers who asked people to acquire land near high ways and build on it through the land bill. Everything in our State is in total chaos.

Dictatorship is not good for democracy

People are quite satisfied to see that after many decades state government has started
to come down heavy on union and association leaders for calling bandh calls. Nowadays
most of the union and association leaders are behind the bar or running after the
court-
It is open secret known to everyone that tussle within the Congress state legislature for CM chair in the recent past was one of the main reasons for mushrooming of various organizations in the state. It is also open secret known to everyone that the same Congress government had sowed seeds of union and association and used them whenever they like it and now it has become a disease for them. Therefore, we are unable to digest the present harsh policy adopted against the union and association leaders because whatsoever most of its leaders are students and youths of our state not any terrorist. So, cure them with best medicine not by poisoning them because every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
We would appreciate this dictator government if they don’t issue land allotment to the illegal encroachers, arrest illegal earth cutters along the highways, issues the pending bills of contractors, release stipend of students and salaries of SSA teachers on time, implement the rate fixed by district administration of perishable and nonperishable goods in the market, stop wasting public money on purchasing luxurious vehicles, arrest tax evaders, protect the innocent villagers from atrocities done by the Assam Police and Forest personals and many more.
It is true that some of the organizations are running behind the money but not every union. However, what to say about our state legislatures who are all corrupted and expert in looting public money for their personal development. Most of the issues raised and demands made by the organizations are for the people not for their union or association. Further most of the issues raised by unions and associations remind the elected representatives of their forgotten promises. Therefore they should not take it personally.
There should be strong Opposition in the Assembly, there should be strong pressure groups, there should be strong NGOs to make complete and healthy democracy and it is up to the government how to tackle the problems but not in a dictator way. We fear one day all these union and association may jointly launch movement against the government and create law and order problems in the state. In such situation innocent public will have to suffer again.
It shall be better if this government dissolves the assembly and declare for fresh election as because they have lost the people’s confidence and trust upon them. It is poor people and innocent general public who are facing acute financial crisis not the people in power & position. If the Home Minister or the state government has no any work then please follow the guidelines of the Supreme Court where it has been clearly mentioned about who are authorized to use red beacon in the government vehicles. Everybody knows MLAs and some irresponsible officers like DC, SP and top government officers are using red beacon in violation of the SC order. Therefore we request our honorable Home Minister, Sir, please arrest those officers and MLAs and put them behind the bar instead of running behind petty organization as everybody knows our Home Minister is expert in putting law breakers behind the bar.

Good initiative by PM Modi
Ever since BJP led government came to power at centre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been making conscious efforts to improve ties with neighbouring countries. Modi visited Nepal, Bhutan and also meet the leaders of China and Pakistan. Such exercise is important as in the recent years Chinese has been trying to encircle India by warming up with countries like Nepal, Sri Lanka and Maldives which are traditionally considered to be India’s area of influence. Prime Minister this morning arrived at Sri Lanka on his maiden visit to island nation. His visit is considered to be very important as during the reign of former president Mahindra Rajapakse Sri Lanka got close to China and even allowed Chinese submarines to dock in Lankan waters.
Modi held extensive delegation level talks with new President Maithripala Sirisena. Strengthening the economic relations between India and Sri Lanka dominated the discussions between Prime Minister Modi and President Maithripala in Colombo. Also agreements on visa, customs, youth development and building Rabindranath Tagore memorial in Sri Lanka were agreed upon. PM Modi made series of announcement to boost the relation between two neighbours. In an important announcement Modi informed that Reserve Bank of India and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has agreed to enter into a Currency Swap Agreement of 1.5 billion dollar to help keep the Sri Lankan rupee stable. This visit by Mr Modi has come in right time and it is time to rebuild the relation between two nations. India needs to walk extra mile to better the relation with all the immediate neighbours. We just cannot afford to let China get strong hold over the neighbouring countries as it will strategically make us weak.
